Contemporary Fundamentals

An introduction to Contemporary, this course focuses on technique, strength, and flexibility. You learn basic contemporary movements and technique building toward choreography. Ballet Technique is strongly recommended with this course. It can take time for your body to learn the language of contemporary. This course is designed to guide your learning and progress.

Contemporary Elementary Technique

Fluidity, articulation and isolations, this course expands your vocabulary of movement while improving strength and control. Enjoy the expressive and expansive quality of contemporary. At this level Ballet is necessary for your development and therefore strongly recommended.  You will see that the training is divided into separate Contemporary Technique and Repertoire (choreography) classes each week, this is to maximize your development.

Contemporary Repertoire

This Term, Repertoire is combined with Contemporary Elementary Technique to make one comprehensive course. In Repertoire you develop the specific skills required for recognizing the landscape of composition and choreography, as well as work on remembering dance sequences, duplicating styles, lines, and musicality. Approaches will include both working with improvisational scores and principles, and learning set choreography to music. We will practice performing these, and through feedback work on our presentation, theatricality, and continuity.
